Air Balloon Hill Primary School opened on the 1st of September 2009 following the amalgamation of two successful, but separate, infant and junior schools. The school, which is situated in the East Bristol suburb of St George, was built in 1905 and architecturally is fairly typical of schools built at that time.

In 2012 extensive work will be carried out and the school will benefit from some fabulous new classrooms, a state of the art front entrance and an extended school kitchen.

The School Buildings

The overall design is of three separate halls with classrooms leading off them, linked by an entrance area and the library. Three of the Reception classes are housed separately in temporary buildings and are surrounded by excellent outside learning areas. There are a variety of rooms which are used for group work of various kinds. There is a small music room where violin, woodwind, guitar, brass, harmonica, drums and keyboard lessons are taken. We also have two ICT suites. The school has its own kitchen and is fortunate to have a lovely, large field as well as a ball-court.

The school has recently become four form entry eventually allowing for a maximum of 840 children. The Headteacher together with two Deputies, Inclusion Manager and Curriculum Leaders form the Senior Management Team.

School Partnerships

The school is forward thinking having a tradition of International Education and Creative Partnerships. Currently the school is a Healthy Schools Plus school and a Creative Partnerships School. Parents play an important role in school as educational partners and the school is proud of its warm, welcoming and caring environment. The school has a good reputation in the area. Sound links with the community have been developed and home/school links are positive and wide ranging. The Parents and Friends of Air Balloon Hill Primary School organise a varied programme of social and fund-raising functions.
